Book Lover’s Tag

Hi Bookish Fans!

Since I’ve been MIA regarding reading/reviews and what not I wanted to stay active and thought a book tag would be fun! After browsing a variety of tags I came across one by Books By Dano who took the idea from Booktube. Her page is beautiful – go check it out and hopefully you’ll join the tag, too!

Question 1
Do you remember how you developed a love of reading?
Surprisingly, yes. As a disclaimer, I’m pretty ancient (not really, I just enjoy being dramatic about it). Back in the day my mom was overly eager to get me into the world of books and bought Hooked on Phonics (the nice big cassette tape version). I learned to read around 3/4 years old and truly couldn’t stop after that. I even remember trying to teach my brother every night before bed when I was 8-10 because I loved it so much (and also enjoyed trying to scare him with Goosebumps stories).

Question 2 Where do you usually read?
I truly enjoy reading on the couch the most. I see people talk about the variety of places they enjoy reading and I attempt many places to see if I’d enjoy them. But, at the end of the day it isn’t in bed, a bath, or at a coffee shop. I just enjoy sitting on my couch surrounded by my fur children to read a book!

Question 3Do you prefer to read one book at a time or several at once?
Several. I either read/listen to 3-5 at a time or I don’t read/listen to anything at all. I think because I become so emotionally invested in a story that I like to take a break and go in a different direction. Therefore I read a variety of genres/stories at the same time to sift through my emotional instability with books.

Question 4 What is your favourite genre?
Historical fiction. Or, historical non-fiction. I am going after a World History degree simply because of my love for history. So, when I find a fictional or non-fiction book about history I am eager to consume it as quickly as I can.

Question 5 – What genre will you not read?
At this time in my life there isn’t anything I will NOT read. However, I do not actively pick up romance, biography, or self-help books. I have very little interest in doing so, though I’ve gone through phases where I enjoy one of these genres immensely.

Question 6 – Do you have a favourite book?
Maybe this is taboo to mention a “favorite” book among the millions circulating the world. But, yes, I do. It bounces back and forth between House Rules by Jodi Picoult and Second Glance by Jodi Picoult. I re-read both of them almost every year and they never bore me and I find new things to love about them every time I read them. #sorrynotsorry

Question 7 – What is the worst book you have ever read?
Truthfully I don’t know. Maybe this makes me a lame critical reader, but I don’t know if I have an “overall” least favorite book. More recently, though, I have to say I have been despising the Red Queen series. I read the first three and after a lot of reflection time on them I grow to dislike it more and more.

Question 8 – What is the biggest book you have ever read?
Hmm, I tried to find this on Goodreads but I don’t know if it’s the most accurate. I’m going to go with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix at 870 pages for now.

Question 9 – What is the last book you brought?
Another copy of Second Glance by Jodi Picoult. I’m not one to enjoy multiples of books but my favorite books I’m happy to own a variety of covers. It’ll be in my May Book Haul once I get around to that!

Question 10 – Which do you prefer: Library books or buying books?
Buying books. Eeeps. Being surrounded by books makes me happier than a lot of things so owning them permanently brings me more joy than borrowing books.

Question 11 – What are you reading now?
A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir, The Lost City of the Monkey God by Douglas Preston, and I want to pick up another re-read though I haven’t decided which one yet.

Question 12 – What are the disadvantages of being a book lover?
Well, first, is not having the funds to buy every book you’ve ever wanted. Second, not having enough space to put them all! I need another bookshelf or two at the moment but in my current living space I don’t have the room to add more. Also, not having enough bookish friends in my everyday life to talk to about books. Lastly, not having the time to read all the amazing stories out there!

I love reading other people’s tags and what their opinions are especially surrounding books. Feel free to do this one if it interests you and I’d love to read what you have to say.
Thanks for tuning in this round!
